Brooklyn Loft
"The tenants of Apartment 101 employed Ravelwood for a period of 3 months (February-April 2014) to demo and build out the interior structure of a loft-style, 1000 square foot apartment in Brooklyn, New York. Working within a tight budget (and keeping meticulous track of all purchases and charges), they designed and built a new living space that was structurally sound and also met the individual needs/preferences of each tenant. With limited resources and minimal assistance, they demo-ed the existing space and built a new structure to include four bedrooms, two storage closets, a library and a spacious, fluid common area (kitchen included). Each bedroom features a built-in bed platform, a closet, customized shelving units, bedside tables and windows/natural light. The impressive craftsmanship and attention to detail are exemplified through the beautiful cabinetry and creative use of found materials incorporated into each room. Though the refined nature of the 'built-ins' are testament to master carpentry skills, the meticulous work does not lack the personalized touches that makes the structure inviting and homey. Working within a limited existing structure (i.e. air vent, warped floorboards, permanent plumbing/electrical outlets, etc.) Ravelwood envisioned a creative use of the space and effectively executed a total renovation of the loft. They not only renovated an apartment—they single-handedly constructed a space that all four tenants of Apartment 101 feel lucky to call home."
